Who is Gentle Recovery for Breast Cancer for?
This course is for those of you who have had breast cancer surgery and are either now in your rehabilitation/ recovery phase or you are having/ awaiting chemotherapy or radiotherapy. This programme is only suitable if you have had the OK from your doctor to return to a normal exercise regime. Please ensure you have gained consent from your doctor to start this online, pre-recorded programme of yoga-based exercises, lymph drainage exercises and walking programme before you purchase. Your doctor will likely have exercise suggestions and guidelines for what you should and should not do.
This course is suitable for women who are able to move on and off the floor (i.e., moving from standing to lying onto your back on your yoga mat, to standing back up) with relative ease. You need a reasonable level of mobility i.e., be able to walk unaided for at least 5-10 minutes. You also need to be able to move both arms out to the side (like a star shape) and forwards (out in front of you) more than 90 degrees.
This course is not for women with the following conditions;
- Osteoporosis
- Unhealed wounds
- Pregnancy
- Sciatica
- Hernia
- Bone metastases
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Surgery within the last 6-8 weeks (breast reconstruction may need over 2 months recovery time before exercise can be started, be sure to speak to your healthcare team about this)
- Unstable blood sugar levels
- Very low blood pressure
- Joint injury/pain (including back pain) that has not been medically assessed or treated
- Frozen shoulder
